For the second time, geography faculty Dr. Sonja Yow has brought National Geographic's Giant Traveling Map of Europe to Model Lab. The map measures 26 feet by 26 feet and will be located in Model Laboratory's Gymnasium April 1-10.

On Thursday January 30th, Eastern Kentucky University hosted the quarterly meeting of the Kentucky Association of Mapping Professionals  (KAMP). With nearly 100 attendees, the quarterly meeting was one of the largest in the organization’s history.

Eight Students Attend Geography Conference in Virginia

Just before the winter holiday, eight students from the Department of Geography and Geology traveled to Roanoke, Virginia to attend the Annual Conference of the Southeastern Division of American Geographers. Two senior geography majors, Nicholas Middleton and Daniel Mullins, presented their research in the undergraduate poster competition.

Dr. White and Geology Students Explore Italy

Geology professor Dr. John White and three geology majors (Chandler Hale, Tara Maynard, and Erin Watts) traveled to Italy with the 2013 Kentucky Institute for International Studies Program, which included three weeks in Florence and one week in Rome. Dr. White taught courses in urban geology and the geography of Italy.

Geography Faculty Engage Model Lab Students with Interactive Map

As part of Geography Awareness Week, geography faculty members Dr. Don Yow and Dr. Sonja Yow collaborated with Model Lab Kindergarten teachers, Marla Muncy and Lisa Corn, to craft a 10 ft X 20 ft hand-painted world map at EKU’s Model Laboratory School.
